MamaBlogger365 - Sorrow: A Trilogy by Shira Adler, Diva Mama

SORROW has many faces. Sorrow doesnʼt discriminate, nor does it tread lightly. When we speak of sorrow, like a universal code, we know it means trouble; a death, an illness, the loss of a job, betrayal. Sometimes itʼs personal; the loss of self esteem, the onset of depression. Other times itʼs global; think Steve Jobs and the loss of everyoneʼs favorite pioneering tech guru.

In almost every instance we cry when sorrow darkens our doorstep, for the very reason that sorrow makes us sad, and we cry when weʼre sad. I've come to believe the worst sorrow comes when it affects us directly. None of us actually knew Steve Jobs, but Iʼm writing this blog on the computer he invented, today I talked to my daughter on the phone he invented, and before bed tonight my son relaxed using the portable tablet he invented. It doesnʼt get more personal than that.

MamaBlogger365 - On Motherhood and Transitions by Stacey Battat

I recently read MamaBlogger365 as I am excited to get involved in helping in my tiny way to be part of the Museum of Motherhood, opening September 1 in NYC. I was going through some of the same feelings of "passages," true to my form, complete with intense tears and laughter!

MamaBlogger365 - A Dream Worth Keeping by Elizabeth Kathryn Gerold-Miller

The day of the rehearsal for my daughter’s first dance recital, the rain was as close to a monsoon as it gets on Long Island. My 14-year-old put her 4-year-old sister’s hair up into a bun and arranged her tutu just so. We left an hour before our assigned rehearsal time; with a seldom-used umbrella I carried my little ballerina to the car so she wouldn’t have to step in any puddles.

MamaBlogger365 - Differently Awesome, guest post by Shira Adler, Diva Mama’s Daughter

I had the opportunity to share a special day with my daughter as she joined me today at a wellness fair on the campus of SUNY Purchase. Her thoughts on our experience were so inspiring and heartwarming, I thought I’d let her share them directly with you so thank you for indulging this proud Mama.

Hello, audience. Since I am not used to this, I hope that you like my first blog. I want to talk to you about my time with my Mom today.

We attended something called an Awaken Fair which was part of a pilates conference (not sure what that is but it has something to do with exercise).

Anyway, it was really fun hanging out with my mom. She goes to a lot of these kinds of events and only recently I have started to go with her. She tells me I am her helper, but I know she also wants to keep an eye on me because I haven’t been feeling so well lately. I know she has told you a little bit about all of that but I am feeling much better now and was happy to spend the day with her and to see many of my mom’s friends who also work at these fairs. They know my Mom and also about me and because they are all healer-types, I felt very comfortable and was treated with a lot of love -- which kids need -- especially kids going through hard times, like me. MamaBlogger365 - Listening to Tears by Vera Snow

Last weekend marked the end of yet another season of basketball for my daughter. An unusually demanding season, I still found myself looking forward to not just watching her play but to cheer and gab with other parents. It started out as any other season except that I seemed much more emotionally involved regarding the outcome of each game. Not a competitive person by nature, I had my share of competitive tennis growing up. I remember enjoying the mantra of hitting and receiving the ball on my racquet but very little interest in winning, or so I thought. Read more...

MamaBlogger365 - Ebb and Flow by *Dr Mama* Amber Kinser

This post is about the ebb and flow of mothering. I’m thinking today about how impermanent any given moment in mothering is and how that can be a source of comfort and hope. Of course it also means that experiences that are sweet and tender fade; “stellar mom moments” fade (I wrote about this in a post on “necessary losses”); the life stages of your child or children that you most connected with fade. But the upside is that the children grow and change, even as you do, so in stages or phases where you feel stuck, you don’t stay stuck there for long. read more

MamaBlogger365: Sacred Space by Shira Adler, Diva Mama

Feng shui and practicality dictate that my home office doubles as a living room. In this space, I am surrounded by physical objects that represent the practical and spiritual elements of my life. I have piles of paper, photographs, coupons, crystals, Wii games, and inspirational pieces in plastic frames...

I sit at my desk and wonder. When my daughter is older, will she remember this room? Will she remember the way the late afternoon sun moves through the hanging crystal on the window overlooking the back yard? Will she remember the way the light forms rainbows dancing on the walls and ceiling? Will she tell her daughter about the writer, singer, healer, visionary who is her mom? read more
