MamaBlogger365 - Don't Put if Off by Kim Jennings

Looking back at the advice my future self gave to my current self, the 2nd thing I wrote was: Don’t put it off.

Put what off? How do I figure out what it is I don’t want to put off? How do I find the time to figure out what it is? Why is my head suddenly spinning out of control?

All very good and important questions.

MamaBlogger365 - You Are Brave by Kim Jennings

Message one of my letter from my 95-year-old self to my current self is: Pursuing your dream takes a lot of courage. You are courageous. You are brave.

We all need to hear these words when facing something big, something scary. Even though big things rarely happen overnight, for some of us – for me – it’s a challenge to take the time to identify the big dream, when life is coming at me at a million miles an hour.

MamaBlogger365 - Summer Slides Into Fall by Shira Adler, Diva Mama

For those of you following my recent blog posts, you might have noticed there have been more than a few weeks of “not-so-good” topics: from the loss of my grandfather to last weekʼs hurricane, itʼs been a hard summer -- and itʼs been difficult to ind moments to put in the “good” pile against the plethora of life challenges Iʼve faced in recent weeks. Iʼm even referring to those topics Iʼve not been able to blog about yet because the subject-matter is still a bit too “hot” -- stay tuned for those -- I assure you, you wonʼt wanna miss out!

Thankfully, a much-needed “good” came this past weekend -- where once again I got to work as Cantor-in-Residence during the final family camp session at Camp Nah-Jee-Wah in Milford, PA.

MamaBlogger365 - Focus on What You Want Rather Than Your Fear By Julie Donley, RN ~ Success Expert & Author of Does Change Have To Be So H.A.R.D.?

Learn how to beat back fear so you can focus on the things that are important to you as a mother!

"I have a new boss. With recent layoffs and downsizing, my boss gave up my area to a new director. My head is swimming with thoughts about how she will treat me, what she will expect. I'm nervous that she will find a way to get rid of me. I'm just so scared of what might happen with this new change."

All of us can relate to feelings of fear especially when they are born from thoughts about change that is out of our control.

This fear is created in your mind from thoughts that craft the worst case scenarios. Your imaginary center goes wild constructing dramatic stories about a potential - and often negative - outcome. There is no fact to the story; it's a fantasy. In choosing to give this thought process your attention, fear erupts within you as you anticipate this outcome becoming your future reality. Then you experience the "fight or flight" phenomenon and this physiological reaction makes it feel so real.

But it's not real. It's a story concocted in your mind. Your mind is playing tricks on you.

MamaBlogger365 - Dromophobia and Other Parental Hazards by Peryl Manning

Parenting is scary. Most parents are, on the inside, a quivering mass of semi-irrational fears. My husband is afraid of crossing the street. There’s a name for it, he’s dromophobic. When we cross as a family, it’s a dramatic undertaking, involving terse instructions and white knuckles. He insists on holding both children’s hands, being skeptical of my own ability to get myself over the pedestrian crossing, let alone taking on the responsibility of the life of one of our children. Heaven knows how I actually manage to cross the street, with the children, without him. He’d rather not think about it.

I would be a little offended by the whole scenario, except that I get it. I have a comparable fear of swing sets (for which there is no fancy title, apparently -- I’d call it swingerphobia, but that might confuse people). Who puts their child on a strip of rubber suspended from two chains, with no seat belt, straps or other safety features, and shoves them eight feet into the air at an angle nearing 180 degrees, for FUN? Well, I do. But I’m not happy about it -- and I’m scared to death every time I do an underdog that I’m going to knock myself out. If I could stuff them into the marginally safer baby swings for the rest of their life, I would. read more
